Ain't She Pretty?

Meet Ms. Marissa Ann Mayer, Google's vice president of search products and user experience.

For you men out there, what is your reaction? What is it that first attracted your undivided attention - her pretty looks or her job position?

To be brutally honest, our testosterone level shot up. Initially, we are attracted to her pretty looks and after the initial shock and satisfaction of our carnal tendencies, we now realize that she is one of Google's high ranking officers. And mind you, she is also one of those persons hired by Google during its start up operation in 1999. She has the distinction of one of those responsible for what Google is today.

As I was reading some IT related article today, I chanced upon a subject about how women were being treated in this male dominated technical world. The author raised a question why women were being treated more for their appearance than what they are capable of contributing or of their competence in the computer industry.

I’m sure it’s not only in the technology field that this is happening but also elsewhere – in business and other fields of careers and endeavors. In our culture, we proudly say that we have great respect for our women. Though this statement carries with it a semblance of truth that we have respect for women, in reality there is still so much to be desired in relation to the different issues about women today.

Being a father to four lovely girls, it is sad to learn of how women are treated in our society and culture.

Women are the most exploited persons in the world. How many major issues are there today that they have to confront daily around the world – sexual violence, labor exploitation, prostitution, gender discrimination, illegal trafficking (white slavery), and their basic human rights. Ever since man established its own culture and civilization, women have been relegated to subservience. They have been treated as persons of lesser importance.

But how many women have proven that they were intelligently equal or better than men. History itself is not in wanting of women of great achievement in many fields of bravery and or science and even religion. In today’s world, women are also proving their worth in every field of endeavor that makes this world supposed to be a better place for all of humanity.

Sadly, there are still a lot of men out there who needs to be taught how to respect women’s dignity as a human being.
